The UBC SNSA is very excited to announce their 21st annual Lucia.
This is a free event for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. Everyone is welcome to join.
Every year the SNSA rehearses with the Nordic Studies Program‘s Swedish and Danish language students to bring you UBC’s own Lucia train. This year, this choir of 29 students is led by our VP Academic Events, Stella Andersson.
Lucia is traditionally celebrated on the 13th of December, which, for Northern Europeans, is when there is very little sun and it is cold and dark. There are Lucia “trains” in schools, churches, retirement homes and many other places, often with children or professional choirs singing. The choir typically enters the room when it is pitch black, and the only light to be seen is from the light of the Lucia “train.”
