Dr. Marianne Stecher-Hansen (PhD, UC Berkeley) is professor and Chair for the Department of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Washington in Seattle where she holds the Georg and Nina Pedersen Professorship of Danish Studies. She has published Nordic War Stories: World War II as History , Fiction, Media and Memory (2021), The Creative Dialectic in Karen Blixen’s Essays (2013), among other publications. Stecher-Hansen serves as the Review Editor for the journal of Scandinavian Studies.
Her presentation on “The Emperor’s New Clothes” is forthcoming as a chapter in The Cambridge Companion to Hans Christian Andersen (2027).
