“The German Federal Election: Implications for Europe” is a panel discussion organized in collaboration with the UBC German Student Association, the UBC Foreign Policy Association and the Department Central, Eastern and Northern European Studies.

Germany’s recent federal election has reshaped the political landscape, with shifts that will have lasting effects on Germany and its European neighbors. Attend for an insightful panel discussion featuring experts in German politics and representatives from the European diplomatic corps in Vancouver.

Discussion will delve into topics such as the rise of right-wing populist parties in Germany and Europe, evolving EU-Canadian trade relations in the context of CETA, NATO and European defence, the enduring East vs. West split in Germany, and the reformation of the German Debt Brake, among many others. This event promises to provide valuable insights into contemporary European politics and international relations, while offering a unique networking opportunity for students interested in these fields.
