This year, Dr. Karin Filipsson publishes “Writing into the Canon: Jonas Hassen Khemiri and The Swedish Novel”.
Dr. Filipsson’s article has been published in Scandinavian-Canadian Studies Volume 33, No 2 (2026). Her text explores Swedish author Jonas Hassen Khemiri’s novels in relation to the Swedish literary canon and argues that Khemiri’s texts display intertextual relationships to August Strindberg and Hjalmar Söderberg. Furthermore, the article explores features such as the flâneur, the urban pastoral, and the father figure, and argues that Khemiri’s novels exemplify a new era of millennial neo-romanticism in Scandinavian literature.
