This July, CENES welcomes Dr. David Gramling and Dr. Jason Lieblang to the department’s undergraduate advising team.
Directors of Undergraduate Studies serve as an essential part of the CENES advising ecosystem, and are responsible for leading their programs, helping students navigate CENES curriculum and degrees, and promoting community initiatives in and beyond the department.
Dr. Gramling will be the new Director of Undergraduate Studies for the German Studies program, a position previously held by Dr. Elizabeth (Biz) Nijdam for the last three years. Dr. Gramling brings a wealth of mentorship experience to the role, including his years spent as Chair of the CENES Department’s Undergraduate Student Advisory Council.
Dr. Lieblang will be taking up the mantle as Director of Undergraduate Studies for Modern European Studies, Nordic Studies, and Slavic and Eastern European Studies, a role previously held by Dr. Tim Frandy. Dr. Lieblang served as the Director of First-Year & Interdisciplinary Programs in the Faculty of Arts from 2021 to 2026, where he oversaw a number of programs, including First-Year transition programs like Arts One, the Coordinated Arts Program, and the Interdisciplinary Studies BA.
We wish everyone success in their new roles and thank them for their service to our students!
