PhD Student Selected to Take Part in Holocaust Education Seminar

Braden Russell, a Ph.D. student in Germanic Studies in the Department of Central, Eastern and Northern European Studies, was accepted to participate in the Jack and Anita Hess Faculty Seminar on Pedagogical Approaches to Material Culture and the Holocaust, at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in Washington, DC, from January 3-6, 2023. The seminar brings together scholars and instructors across North America to learn innovative pedagogical methods to teach the Holocaust at the undergraduate level.

The seminar topic for 2023 focuses on material culture and ways objects can be used to teach the Holocaust. The seminar will intertwine pedagogical approaches and academic scholarship focusing on material objects of the Holocaust. Participants will use the USHMM archive and material to examine objects and acquire hands-on skills to implement new pedagogical methods in their undergraduate classrooms.
