Two Graduate Students Defend Their Dissertations



Germanic Studies graduate students Carolina Franzen and Dorothee Leesing have successfully defended their dissertations and completed their Ph.D. degrees. Carolina’s thesis, “Impossible Subjectivities: Negative Agency and the Biopolitical Order of Nazism,” was co-supervised by Dr. Geoffrey Winthrop-Young and Dr. Bozena Karwowska. Dorothee’s thesis, “Engaging the High-Rise in German Media Culture: Aspects of Vertical Living from 1945 to 2020,” was supervised by Dr. Ilinca Iurascu.
