The University of British Columbia, Vancouver invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in German in the Department of Central, Eastern and Northern European Studies (https://cenes.ubc.ca/), commencing July 1, 2018.
We expect to fill this position for a two-year term (which entails a probationary first year). Lecturer positions are appointments without review (i.e., non-tenure track), renewable for successive terms, subject to availability of funding and demonstration of excellence in teaching, in accordance with the Collective Agreement between UBC and the UBC Faculty Association.
The workload for this position includes teaching plus service. The successful candidate is expected to teach 24 credits of undergraduate German language courses per year at all levels. Service assignments will include responsibility for some administrative duties related to the undergraduate program.
Applicants are required to have native or near-native fluency in German. In addition, a PhD in German (or equivalent doctoral degree) is required but we will also consider those who have completed the requirements for the doctoral degree by the position start date. In exceptional circumstances, someone with an MA and considerable teaching experience could be considered. The candidate is expected to have a demonstrated record of successful and effective teaching in the field of German language.

This position is subject to final budgetary approval. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
