This September, join CENES for a lecture by Dr. Ian Roberts from the University of Warwick on the German filmmaker, F. W. Murnau.
The talk focuses on iconic German filmmaker F. W. Murnau (e.g., Nosferatu, The Last Laugh, Sunrise) and a pivotal moment in his career: the precarious period between the end of WWI and the beginning of the new republic. What do we know about this influential filmmaker’s early career around 1919 and how does this time period help us better understand his work overall? The talk will address these and other questions, and will also feature a discussion of the partially lost film The Boy in Blue (1919).
