Bożena Karwowska contributes a chapter on subjectivity and decolonization in Eastern Europe after the fall of the Soviet Union.
In her contribution to the book, Inga Iwasiów dla średnio zaawansowanych, Dr. Karwowska discusses the role of Russian literature in building up Russian/Soviet imperial thinking and colonial culture. The rise of sovereign subjectivity among countries of post-soviet Eastern Europe in the 1990s still slams up against a profound lack of knowledge of Eastern European literature and culture in the West, especially when compared with the availability and knowledge of Russian authors.
