Call for applications: UBC German Studies awards and scholarships (2022-2023)

Each year, the UBC German Studies program issues awards and scholarships to undergraduate students to support them on their German Studies journey.

They recognize excellence among students pursuing a German major, a German major (honours), a German minor, or a German Studies minor. Select awards and scholarships also support students variously engaging in coursework, scholarship and community building in the UBC German Studies program.

Awards and scholarships are awarded twice during an academic year. The first set is awarded in Term 1 and the second set in Term 2.

The UBC German Studies Program invites applications from students for the awards and scholarships listed below.

Applications can be submitted using this form: https://cene.air.arts.ubc.ca/ubc-german-studies-awards-and-scholarships-form/.

Only completed applications will be considered. A completed application is comprised of the following:

  1. A complete information form, providing us with your name, student number, year of study, your degree program (including major(s) and minor(s), a list of GERM or CENS courses taken (either at UBC or elsewhere), and a list of the award/scholarship for which you are applying.
  2. A statement of interest, expressing the work you have done in your GERM or CENS courses, in the UBC German Studies degree programs, or in the community that outlines why you are deserving of recognition. The statement should be no longer than a page (12 pt, Times New Roman, double spaced).
  3. A copy of unofficial UBC transcript (or, if needed, from another institution).

Please note that letters of recommendation are not required.

An adjudication committee comprised of select faculty from the UBC German Studies Program will review all applications and make selections in the weeks following the submission deadline.

For university-wide eligibility criteria, please consult this resource on the UBC Student Services website.

Completed applications are due March 31, 2023. For any questions about the awards application process, reach out to Dr. Ervin Malakaj, Director of Undergraduate Studies in German, at ervin.malakaj@ubc.ca.
