CENES Faculty present at 2020 MLA Conference in Seattle



Several CENES faculty members presented research at the 2020 annual meeting of the Modern Language Association in Seattle (9–12 January).

  • Dr. Katherine Bowers presented “Sublime Anxiety: The Petersburg Text and Dostoevsky’s Gothic City.”
  • Dr. Kyle Frackman presented “‘Was der innere Naturtrieb uns lehrt’: Botany and the Sexological Imagination.”
  • Dr. Markus Hallensleben presented “Postmigrant Literature as Political Movement?”
  • Dr. Ilinca Iurascu presented “Academic Inventories: How to Read a Course Catalog around 1800.”
  • Dr. Ervin Malakaj participated in two roundtables: “Exploring Strategies for LGBTQIA+ Inclusion in Language Classrooms” and “Decolonization and the Age of Goethe.”
  • Dr. Gaby Pailer presented “Emotions in Premodern German Literature and Culture” and participated in a roundtable on “Radical and Moderate Sturm und Drang.”
