CENES PhD Student Wins GSC Prize for Best MA Thesis in German Studies

Congratulations to Dante Prado, CENES PhD student, on receiving the Best MA Thesis in German Studies!

The recipient of this year’s German Studies Canada Prize for Best MA Thesis in German Studies (defended in the period 2021-2023) was Dante Prado for his MA Thesis “The Crisis of Laughter at the End of the Long Nineteenth Century: Laughter in Thomas Mann’s The Magic Mountain.” The committee highlighted the use of qualitative and quantitative focus in the analysis of the cultural and changing meaning of laughter in Mann’s novel.
