On Thursday, January 23 at 12:45 p.m. in Buchanan Tower 997, Dr. Bozena Karwowska will be giving a talk on “Tadeusz Borowski’s This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen: Facts, Literary Style and a Testimony of Auschwitz.”
Abstract:
Tadeusz Borowski’s short stories have been available on the English-speaking book market for over half a century. Though critics list them among the best testimonies of the Holocaust, the English translation does not carry the same questions as the Polish original version. After describing the reception process of Borowski’s stories in the English-speaking world, I’ll point out and discuss these differences, ultimately concluding with observations about the importance of literary form for Borowski’s work.
