Dr. Ervin Malakaj, Assistant Professor of German Studies, was awarded a Research and Creation grant for the Canada Council for the Arts in the amount of $25,000.
The award will fund a research trip on which Dr. Malakaj will retrace his refugee and migration journey from his hometown in Bosnia and Herzegovina to Canada.
During this trip, he will write essays about each site based on personal memory work, conversations with neighbours, and various interactions with locations. These essays will constitute a memoir, which is tentatively titled Tetka Theory: A Queer Life in the Bosnian Diaspora.
