Dr. Ervin Malakaj, Associate Professor of German Studies, published a chapter titled “Die Suche nach einer iranisch-deutschen Queer-of-Color-Filmform in Faraz Shariats Futur Drei” (The Search for an Iranian-German Queer of Colour Film Form in Faraz Shariat’s Futur Drei). The chapter appeared in the volume, Text/Körper: Ästhetiken und Praktiken literarischer (Un-)Sichtbarkeit (Text/Body: Aesthetics and Practices of Literary (In)Visibility), edited by Vanessa Höving and Lena Wetenkamp.
In the chapter, Dr. Malakaj writes about queer patience by studying how Shariat’s film stages deferrals, trials, and recurrent attempts to articulate queer of colour life in Germany. In so doing, Shariat ushers in a new era of queer Iranian-German filmmaking.
