On February 19-21, Dr. Biz Nijdam attended the Nordic Summer University’s Winter Symposium on Comics and Feminism at Södertörn University in Sweden, where she chaired a session on “Gender perspectives on comics in Italian and German.”
This symposium is a culmination of the work of a multidisciplinary study of feminist comic art, which Dr. Nijdam was a part of. The project focused on feminist comic art and graphic novels from Sweden, Finland, Germany, and Russia, with a view of comics as political action and social commentary, specifically on the role of comic art in operationalizing a feminist movement.
