The “Witnessing Auschwitz” student conference will take place Sept 10-11, 2015. The conference will showcase original research by students who participated in the “Witnessing Auschwitz” seminar this summer on location in Poland, graduate students, and scholars. For more details, see the following information provided by the conference organizers.
On behalf of the Witnessing Auschwitz program, we cordially invite you to the 2015 Student Conference. This conference will take place at the UBC Point Grey Campus which is located on the traditional, ancestral, unceded land of the Musqueam people.
This conference will include student panels centered on the research they conducted whilst in Poland as well as graduate student panels. We are delighted to announce talks by Dr. Bozena Karwowska, and Dr. Geoffrey Winthrop-Young. We are also honoured to welcome Dr. Jacek Leociak for two Ziegler lectures. The Witnessing Auschwitz program was an incredible opportunity in which students from UBC were able to participate in a multi-disciplinary program that allowed them to explore the complicated memory of the Holocaust and the context in which it affects the present. With the generous sponsorship of the Polish Consulate of Vancouver, this year’s conference also has the pleasure of welcoming the exhibition The World Knew- Jan Karski’s Mission for Humanity. It is a 22 panel exhibit which tells of Karski’s lessons for humanity through photographs, documents and testimony.
RSVPs are welcome at witnessingassistant@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing you.
