About

Dariya (Dasha) McEwen has been part of CENES since 2005, where she teaches courses in Russian language and in Slavic and Eastern European literature and culture.

Her research spans folklore, literature, and cultural memory, with particular attention to the interplay between official narratives and marginalized voices. From her early work on Slavic folklore to her current PhD research on memoirs of Ukrainian survivors of Auschwitz, she examines how identity and history are constructed in texts ranging from fiction to historiography and personal testimony. Across these interests, she invites students to think about how stories—whether epic tales, novels, or testimonies—shape the way people understand history, identity, and themselves.

Dasha’s courses include:

  • Slavic cultures and literatures (SLAV, CENS)
  • Russian language (RUSS)
