Dr. Ervin Malakaj (UBC) and Dr. Beverly Weber (University of Colorado Boulder) co-edited a special issue of the scholarly journal English Language Notes with the title “Refuge and Displacement.”
The special issue focuses on care and solidarity building in the face of forced displacement. It responds in part to calls in the recently articulated field of critical refugee studies to shift away from contemporary discussions on forced migration that often rely on notions of refugees exclusively as the suffering other. The contributors to the issue discuss refuge and displacement by centering those who have experienced displacement as producers of knowledge. The focus on care and solidarity allows consideration of not only the critical but also the creative: the possibilities for care, solidarities, and new worlds that are articulated through artistic and activist cultural production.
The special issue is available through UBC’s Koerner Library.
