Nordic Studies Minor wins Aurora Borealis Prize

Congratulations to CENES Nordic Minor Gabi Fisher for winning the prestigious Undergraduate Aurora Borealis Prize awarded by the Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Study (SASS).

In spring 2026, Gabi received this prize for her paper “A Silence with Symptoms: Nordic Exceptionalism and Sámi Health,” written for Dr. Tim Frandy’s Indigenous Activism course (NORD 341).

Each year SASS awards a $500 prize for one outstanding undergraduate paper within the field of Scandinavian Studies. Undergraduates are evaluated on the following criteria: clarity of argument; rigor of scholarship and appropriateness of sources cited; interest and engagement with the field of Scandinavian Studies.
