Flash Teach-In on Ukraine

DATE
Wednesday March 2, 2022
TIME
2:30 PM - 4:00 PM

This flash teach-in will offer brief historical background, contemporary context, and regional insight to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Each participant will draw on their particular knowledge in Eastern European and/or Russian Studies to frame the developing situation through a focused micro-presentation, with time for questions or discussion to follow. We have organized this event for students and colleagues in our university communities who are interested in learning more about the historical, political, and cultural context shaping the current war.

The event is hosted by the UBC Department of Central, Eastern and Northern European Studies and organized by the Eurasia Research Cluster at UBC, which includes regional experts from area institutions, including UBC-Vancouver and UBC-Okanagan, University of Victoria, Simon Fraser University, Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Thompson Rivers University, and Western Washington University. The Eurasia Research Cluster is supported through a grant from the UBC-V Public Humanities Hub.

This is the first of a series of connected events that will focus on Ukraine. Plans are being made very fast and details on future events will be forthcoming as they are available.
