The Department of CENES passed the following resolution at its general meeting on September 10, 2019:
Whereas a Global Climate Strike has been called for September 27, 2019, organized and facilitated by 350.org (see https://globalclimatestrike.net/); and
Whereas many UBC students, staff, and faculty wish to and will participate in this action;
It is therefore resolved that the Department of Central, Eastern, and Northern European Studies (CENES) voice its support for the initiative; and
It is further resolved that CENES pledges to inform students of the events via the department’s website and social media channels as well as through communications from instructors to students; and
It is finally resolved that CENES and its instructors will accommodate and not apply penalties to students who miss class on September 27, 2019, in order to participate in the Global Climate Strike.
