Dr. Markus Hallensleben, together with collaborator Moritz Schramm from the University of Southern Denmark, has published two special issues on postmigration.

“The Politics of Postmigration” appeared in EuropeNow. This special feature reflects on the wider political aspects of postmigration. It addresses the way in which postmigration contributes to a critical understanding of the ambivalences and conflicts present in immigration societies. The feature includes Hallensleben’s article on “Unsettling the Politics of Belonging through Narratives of Radical Diversity and Indigenous Storywork”.

Postmigration: Aesthetics and Interventions” appeared as vol. 14 no. 1 of Crossings: Journal of Migration & Culture. It seeks to provide an overview of some of the most central developments in the field, whether it is the growing academic awareness of ‘postmigrant theatre’, which has been a major success in Germany since 2008, or the recent academic debates and international discussions about postmigration as a new theory in social and cultural studies. It includes Hallensleben’s open access articles on “De-essentializing ethnic identities through narrating a plural belonging: Aesthetics of postmigration in Zafer Şenocak’s novel Perilous Kinship (1998)” and “‘How are we going to be able to reach a higher degree of self-determination?’: A conversation with writer Max Czollek about ‘Radical Diversity’.”

All publications by Markus Hallensleben are open access and were supported by the SSHRC of Canada (Grant No. 430-2019-00686).
