Every year in July, new faculty members join our departmental community, and existing members take on new leadership positions.
Undergraduate directors are responsible for leading their program, helping students find their way through our curriculum and degrees, and promoting community initiatives in and beyond the department.
This July, Prof. Ervin Malakaj (“MA-la-kahy”) is taking on the position of Director of CENES’s Centre for European Studies, while Prof. Biz Nijdam (“NY-dum”) takes over for Malakaj as Director of Undergraduate Studies for the German undergraduate program.
Prof. Tim Frandy is taking the leadership position as Director of Undergraduate Studies for Nordic Studies (which includes Danish and Swedish), as Lena Karlström steps down after decades of service.
Profs Olena Morozova, Ilinca Iuraşcu, and Dr. Veta Chitnev will continue in their director roles for Slavic Studies, Modern European Studies, and Russian, respectively. Prof. Kyle Frackman will continue as Director of Graduate Studies for the department.
We are also thrilled to welcome our newest colleague and long-time friend of CENES, Prof. Tom Kemple, who will join the Department as a full-time research professor on July 1. Welcome, Prof. Kemple!
We wish everyone success in their new roles and thank them for their service to our students.
