The Parthenon of Books Project

CENES instructor, Dr. Florian Gassner currently holds a Visiting Professor position at the University of Kassel, Germany.

Together with his colleague Prof. Nikola Roßbach and just under 20 students, the research team produced a list of banned books which date as far back as 1575 and contains just over 72,000 titles. This year, Argentine artist Marta Minujín will open an installation built from books, all of which were banned around the world at some point in history. Update: Dr. Gassner and his colleague Prof. Nikola Roßbach were recently featured in an article in the Süddeutsche Zeitung. The article is based on an interview with Gassner and Roßbach in which they discuss the preparation of our “List of Banned Books” for the “Parthenon of Books” project at documenta.
