On September 5, 2019, the Department of Central, Eastern and Northern European participated in the first-ever UBC Language Day. The event was spearheaded by Danish lecturer Kim West, and co-organized by CENES, Classical, Near Eastern, and Religious Studies, French, Hispanic, and Italian Studies, and Asian Studies. More than 25 languages were represented, and students were given the opportunity to meet instructors from the different language programs, ask questions, and participate in cultural activities.
Participating programs included German, Russian, Polish, Swedish, Danish, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Catalan, Cantonese, Chinese, Hindi-Urdu, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tibetan, Classical Arabic, Ancient Greek, Biblical Hebrew, Latin, Akkadian, Middle Egyptian, and Coptic.
