Dr. Winthrop-Young published “Wotan’s Biopunk: The Grim(m) German God and his English Bloodsport in Sarban’s Sound of His Horn” in Zeitschrift für Anglistik und Amerikanistik.
Sarban’s classic SF novel (1952) is the first full-length alternate history set in a world in which Germany won the Second World War. Anticipating many later Goth, sexualized and biopunk trends in the popular depictions of Nazism, it revolves around an avatar of the Germanic god Wotan (as he appears in the writings of Jacob Grimm) hunting human prey with the help of genetically engineered cat women.
