Join the UBC Scandinavian and Nordic Student Association (SNSA) and CENES to celebrate Lucia on November 29th!
This is a free event, and everyone is welcome everyone to join.
Lucia is traditionally celebrated on the 13th of December, which, for Northern Europeans, is when there is very little sun and it is cold and dark. There are Lucia “trains” in schools, churches, retirement homes and many other places, often with children or professional choirs singing. The choir typically enters the room when it is pitch black, and the only light to be seen is from the flames of the Lucia “train.” The ethereal singing of the choir fills the room as they walk in with their gowns and candles and perform a variety of winter themed songs.
Every year the SNSA rehearses with the Nordic Studies Program‘s Swedish and Danish language students to bring you UBC’s own Lucia train.
How to Attend:
On November 29th, the doors will open at 5:00 pm for fika (baked goods and coffee, first come first served), and the choir will begin at 5:30pm.
