You are cordially invited to join us for the next meeting of The CENES Salon, an informal gathering of UBC staff, faculty, students, and community members that centres on intellectual exchange and fostering community.
Dr. Jason Lieblang and Dr. Gaby Pailer will start by providing some general information about the complex “Gestern und heute” (“Girls in Uniform”) stage and screen materials, and then focus on Christa Winsloe’s original stage script Gestern und heute (Ritter Nérestan) from 1930. They will then introduce their new bilingual edition of the play, talking specifically about a selection of scenes and their approach to translating them into English.
The first portion of the Salon will be an informal mix and mingle to get to know colleagues over coffee and tea. This will be followed by a short, 10- to 15-minute presentation, which will then be opened up to discussion with the larger group for the remainder of the time. The CENES Salon is meant to be fun, casual and collaborative – a space to learn from and with each other. You do not need to know anything about the topics to participate, though some contextual information will be provided in advance.
