Dr. Biz Nijdam was recently featured in an article on global reactions to Art Spiegelman’s Maus, in which she spoke about the role of the Pulitzer-Prize-winning Holocaust survival story in the emergence of comics on history more broadly, as well as the problematic logic behind banning graphic novels.

Russian instructor Dariya Prykhodko grew up in Lviv, and has stayed in contact with her classmates there over the decades. Today, those classmates have organized a large-scale food-making effort for internally displaced people fleeing the Russian invasion and for those fighting to defend their country.

Formerly known as the Institute for European Studies and housed in the Department of Political Science, the Centre moved into the CENES Department in the fall, and took on a new mandate to become a multidisciplinary home for the critical study of Europe.
